Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate health related quality of life of Korean adult people using EQ-5D and explore the trends of their health related quality of life from 2005 to 2011.

Methods: We used the data from KNHNES III, IV and V. Among KNHNES V, the data of the first and second year (2010 and 2011, respectively) were included in the analysis. The general characteristics of study participants in each study period and crude problem reporting in each dimension of EQ-5D by general characteristics were analyzed. International comparisons with the results from the survey of general population of other countries were shown through the standardization based on the population structure of the 2010 census in Korea.

Results: ¡°Pain/discomfort¡± was the most frequently problem reported dimension during the survey years but the proportion reporting problem was decreasing with ¡°Anxiety/depression¡±. Problem reporting in other dimensions was similar during the survey. The analysis from comparison with the results of other countries showed that health related quality of life (HRQOL) in the perspective of problem reporting was relative higher than those level of other countries while EQ visual analogue scale was lower than those values from other countries.

Conclusion: If using HRQOL results in general adult population, evaluations for various health policy or intervention might be enable. Further research will be needed for development of HRQOL measures appropriate to Korean people.
